Anthias Fish

Anthias is a member of the Anthiadinae subfamily. In the tropical and subtropical Atlantic, these fish are typically found in deep reefs at depths that are difficult for scuba divers to access. But only one species of Anthias, A. Noeli can be found in the East Pacific’s deep reefs. These fishes are available in a variety of colors, including red, pink, orange, and yellow. The largest species has a maximum length of 29 centimeters (11 in). Anthias are zooplankton-feeding organisms that usually inhabit groups.

Diet

Because anthias are carnivores, they need to eat small, meaty meals such as prepared or frozen offerings, copepods, amphipods, and Mysis shrimp. If you feed them at least twice a day with frequent tiny meals, they may occasionally accept flake foods. Try giving your Anthias live foods to pique their interest in eating if they aren’t taking advantage of what you are offering.

Behavior

As previously noted, anthias are a type of fish that require a minimum tank capacity of 70 gallons and can grow up to 5 inches in length. These fish are entertaining to watch and a wonderful addition to your aquarium. They may be bashful at first, but it will pass. The majority of individuals would rather keep one male and five to ten female Anthias. Interestingly, these fish are protogynous hermaphrodites, meaning they have the ability to switch between their sexes. The dominant female fish will become a male if the male fish dies. It is advised that you have a tank that is at least 125 gallons if you intend to preserve a larger collection of Anthias. If you intend to maintain fish, it’s also a good idea to cover your tank with a netted lid.
